Talented and Gifted (TAG)

BVSD schools provide programming for Talented and Gifted (TAG) students based on their identified needs and in accordance with district identification policy, which is based on a body of evidence.

The Talented and Gifted program at Mesa Elementary School includes academic and enrichment programs and support for the social and emotional needs of gifted students.  The TAG Educational Advisor is the primary advocate for students, communications, and programming in the school.

The academic programming for talented and gifted students includes:
    1. Classroom differentiation for grades KG through 5 that utilizes tiered instruction and flexible grouping provided by highly trained and skilled teachers.
    2. Year-long push-in and pull-out academic programs administered by support staff for grades 3 through 5.
    3. 6th grade math.

The social emotional programming and support for talented and gifted students and their families includes:
    1. Year-long push-in and pull-out programs administered by support staff for grades 3 through 5 that include stress reduction, group work, mindset, goal-setting, and other self-regulation and affective programming.
    2. Opportunities for parents to attend SENG groups and seminars available through BVSD and Boulder Valley Gifted and Talented (BVGT).

Students may also be involved in enrichment activities and clubs.  Mesa offers a wide range of extra-curricular enrichment opportunities throughout the year including Math Olympiads, Chess Club, Junior Great Books, and Destination Imagination.  Information about local programs, quality resources, and classes about the characteristics of gifted students and specific parenting strategies is shared with families of TAG students and other interested parties.
